Preservation Through Education

In 2010, the Mosby Heritage Area Association celebrates its 15th anniversary.  Members of the Board of Directors are planning a series of special events for this anniversary year.

Founded in 1995, MHAA’s youth and adult education programs continue to be delivered to increasing numbers of interested individuals. At a recent program we had participants from Richmond, VA, California and the five counties that make up the Heritage Area.

In addition, regularly scheduled events will have a 15th anniversary twist. That includes the Civil War Conference in October and the Cavaliers, Courage and Coffee programs. Other special programs are planned for 2010. One will be a two-day program on Monticello that includes a ‘behind the scenes’ tour.  A second will be a walking tour of Balls Bluff Battlefield.

Winter Lecture Series begins
“The Power of the Past”, keynote speaker David McCullough – official kickoff
 The John Singleton Mosby Heritage Area Association, Inc. incorporated

1996
Eugene Scheel commissioned to create Map of the Mosby Heritage Area
Production of first audio tour – Prelude to Gettysburg, the Battles of Aldie, Middleburg, and Upperville
Publication of first driving tour brochure – Drive through History

1998
First Annual, Conference on the Art of Command in the Civil War

2000
Release of Profiting from Preservation report
Placement of 12 Mosby Heritage Area boundary signs through ISTEA funds
Office at Atoka in Rector House and hiring of Judy Reynolds

2001
Name changed to the Mosby Heritage Area Association, Inc.

2002
Judy Reynolds hired as Executive Director

2003
Release of update of the Profiting from Preservation report
Installation of 3 boundary, 2 interpretive, and 30 audio tour signs

2004
Aldie Triange school program initiated in partnership with Aldie Mill, Mount Zion Church, Oak Hill, and the Mosby Heritage Area Association
Director of Education, Richard Gillespie, hired

2005
First Antiques Appraisal Day
First Cavaliers, Courage and Coffee Program

2006
First Mosby Ride (interpretive trail ride)

2007
Exploring Olde Loudoun Bus Tours

2008
First Mosby’s Ranger’s Descendant Reunion
