Current Issues Supported and Sponsored by the Mosby Heritage Area Association

  • One of the main issues facing the Mosby Heritage Area is the proposed power line that Dominion and Allegheny Power Companies has announced its intention to build across our area.  The Board of Directors and members of the MHAA has written letters to the United States Department of Energy, attended informational meetings sponsored by the Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC), and let their voices be heard at workshops sponsored by Dominion Power throughout the region.

  • The MHAA is working with the citizens of the Upperville area in opposing the building of a Verizon cell tower within the town’s Historic District and core battlefield area for the Cavalry Battle of Upperville.  Letters have been written by MHAA requesting that we be considered an interested party to this proposal.  The MHAA is working with the Citizens Committee for the Historic Calvary Battles of Aldie, Middleburg and Upperville, the Goose Creek Association, the Piedmont Environmental Council, and the Upperville Community League on this issue.

Paul Ziluca has spearheaded this effort bringing interested parties together, communicating with representatives of Verizon, scheduling meetings with Verizon and interested parties, and canvassing the area for alternative sites to locate the cell tower—ones that are more sensitive to the landscape and appropriate for the historic resources of Upperville.

  • The MHAA has had a presence at committee and Board of Supervisor meetings, and has written letters opposing the Comprehensive Plan Amendments (CPAMS) in Loudoun County, especially the proposed 30,000-plus residential developments along the Route 50 corridor east of Gilbert’s Corner.  The MHAA supports the efforts of Loudoun’s Future in this ongoing effort.
