Conversations in History: The Civil War Comes to Aldie

  • Aldie Mill Historic Park 39401 Little River Turnpike Aldie, VA, 20105 United States (map)

Join Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area and NOVA Parks on Saturday, March 2nd at 1:00 PM to hear the story of the Civil War coming to the village of Aldie. On that same date in 1863, Confederate partisan leader John Mosby and his Rangers rode quickly into the quiet village in pursuit of Union cavalry that had been searching for Mosby in nearby Middleburg. The southern troops quickly overwhelmed men of the 1st Vermont, and Mosby had one of his first victories of the war.

Historian Eric Buckland will introduce us to the early days of Mosby in the Civil War and will discuss the events that culminated in the fight at Aldie Mill. He’ll also describe some of the other events which have made Aldie Mill such a large part of the Rangers history and lore.

This program is the first of 2024 in the on-going Conversations in History series co-sponsored by Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area and NOVA Parks. Cost is $10 per adult, with students admitted free of charge. Tickets can be purchased below or at the door. No reservations are required. The program will be held in the Aldie Mill Granary Visitors Center, 39401 Little River Turnpike, Aldie.
